Subject: Writing a compatibility test?

I'd like to write an automated test to confirm that older Jenkins job
definitions can be updated to current Jenkins job definitions without errors or
exceptions.

Can someone point me to an example of that type of test, or to the general area
of the code where I would look to identify how to write such a test?
