Jerome, Not sure about a JenkinsSocketFactory, but I think a plugin that manages proxy configurations, similar to the credentials plugin, would be very helpful. Such proxy config should include reference to credentials (for Proxy auth) as well. The same is true for external URL's and timeouts. Ultimately a combination of all three for Connection (config) management would be just awesome.
