Looks interesting! I'll probably have to break my "no new plugins with fewer 
than 1000 installs" policy for this :-)

But wouldn't 'directory entry' be a better term than 'file system object' (if 
you don't want to just call it 'file')?
'File system object' has the additional problem of confusing users who know the 
term from e.g. VBScript, where it means something completely different.

Also, description should probably be a textarea with highlighting and preview, 
like in core since 1.554:
