But as suggested in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/jenkinsci-dev/OvWw0zqJI_E/-1PvLg_DeYkJ I switched from using ssh/git to https. And now pushing to github works. mvn release:prepare release:perform reports now success (after several hours) but my build does not show up. Will report this problem in separate thread.
