Since you have a good feedback of what may be needed from your work, could you maybe consider contributing to that plugin? It does not seem very active, so you may even take over maintenance?
>From a user POV, imo, it's indeed better to try and not multiply similar plugins but work together on existing plugins if possible (somehow what OSS is about BTW).
