There are a lot of backend related technical stuff to be improved in 2.0, and we should go for them even breaking some backward compatibility, but not too much, I mean, having to completely rewrite plugins is a clear no-go from my point of view, but if some plugins require some adjustments to work in 2.0 then it would be ok.
But what I really would like to see in 2.0 is a UI change (just in the way shown by Tom in his screencast). Jenkins (with the huge plugins base) already has all the mechanics to do CI/CD really well, but the UI is sometimes hard to use. Probably the current Jelly approach must be kept just to ensure a good level of backward compatibility, but there is a lot of things that could be done directly in core that would really improve the UX, and (as in backend code) some breakages should be accepted (and fixed in plugins). IMO the most important part of 2.0 should be the UX improvement.
