Hello and welcome! that's great you want to give it a try. It is a bit hard to answer without knowing what are your interests. I am bit afraid this list is quite incomplete, but it's great you found it :-). There's not a lot of bash/shell in Jenkins, and a bit of JS.
I think the first step could be to try and build Jenkins, IOW setting up your environment to be able to iterate. Did you manage to do that? One possible other way is to start with some plugin. Many of us started this way. Jenkins is a Java-based software though, so knowing or wanting to learn Java is probably important to get past the basics. If you're JS-savvy, we could probably point you to some BlueOcean related things because there's much more JS in there that in more common plugins (but still some Java IIUC).
