Hi all,

You may have already noticed a few threads about Google Summer of Code
(GSoC) <https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/> in the developer mailing list
and other Jenkins channels. We are going to participate in the program this
year, and we are looking for project ideas and mentors. GSoC is a great
opportunity for us to work with some brilliant students who seek mentorship
in open-source projects.

If there are any missing features you would like to see in Jenkins, GSoC is
a great opportunity to get this project done. Suggesting project ideas for
your own plugins is also fine! GSoC mentorship And yes, it is really about
complex projects which are valuable to the Jenkins users and the community.
Here are our GSoC 2020 <https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/2020/> projects:

GSoC requires significant time investment (~5hrs per week in May-August),
but it may also be a great experience. Mentors work in teams, and mentoring
does not require deep Jenkins development experience. Please see this 2020
announcement blog post
<https://jenkins.io/blog/2019/12/20/call-for-mentors/> by Martin d'Anjou
for more details.

We recommend sending your project ideas early, there are already students
exploring the ideas. You can also find some documentation on our site: current
project ideas <https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/2021/project-ideas/>, project
idea submission guide
<https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/proposing-project-ideas/>, expectations
from mentors <https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/mentors/>, etc. If you have
any questions, we have a Gitter channel
<https://gitter.im/jenkinsci/gsoc-sig>and a mailing list.
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/jenkinsci-gsoc-all-public> We also
have office hours for Q&A on Wednesdays at 3PM UTC.

Best regards,
Oleg Nenashev
