I suppose you mean to autodetect branches in the repository, as the Git plugin does. In discussions with stephenc we have agreed that this was always a bad design and I have no plans to replicate it in the Mercurial plugin. Decide which branch your project builds, and configure it that way; if you have multiple branches, create multiple projects, perhaps using some job creation or templating system (there are several).
