Credentials support has been added to the git plugin and appears to be able to support this case as of git-client-plugin 1.6.2. Instead of embedding user name and password in the URL where they may be visible to users viewing the job configuration or to users reading the log file, it now supports credentials from the central Jenkins credentials.
Could you test with git-client-plugin 1.6.2 to see if this is resolved?
