I can duplicate the problem with your instructions using Jenkins 1.538 (as you did). I cannot duplicate the problem using the Jenkins Long Term Support release (1.532.3). I suspect the problem is a bug in Jenkins core. I've changed the assigned project from git-plugin to core. You may want to consider switching to either the current long term support release (1.532.3), or the release candidate of the next long term support release (1.554.1-RC). The release candidate will likely release within the next two weeks.
