Use -Dhudson.model.Slave.workspaceRoot=ws for shorter workspace folder name on slaves.
Use -Dhudson.matrix.MatrixConfiguration.useShortWorkspaceName=true for Matrix projects.
Teach your users to use short internal project names, and only longer display names (in Advanced Project Options). This is also easier on scripts choking on spaces or crazy Unicode snowmen in folder names.
