Cannot reproduce on 1.561. Seems to me that an exception is thrown while building the XML.
?depth=1 and default depth (assuming it doesn't happen then) seem to only differ in executor and load statistics detail, so maybe an executor is dead?
Can this be reproduced on a more recent Jenkins version? What does your node configuration look like? If you have multiple nodes, can you limit this to one or few specific nodes (/computer/nodename/api/xml for every nodename)? What's notable about the nodes the issue occurs with compared to the others?
