FYI, this bug is still happening on RHEL 7 Server ppc64 with OpenJDK 7.
Steps to reproduce:
I tried to update to jenkins-1.577-1.1 from http://pkg.jenkins-ci.org/redhat/ but got the same error.
Here are the parameters used by /etc/init.d/jenkins script to start jenkins:
