I have just updated the plugin to the new version (1.1.12) since the change logs state that it includes a "Possible fix for disconnect, shutdown, power on issue".
At least in my scenario with vSphere 5.5 and Jenkins LTE (1.565.3) the problem is fixed and slave nodes are successfully shut down and powered up again when necessary. Hence, from my point of view, this issue can be closed.
