Thanks for the tip Paul, we're still learning streams and adding /.repository/... to Ignored section of stream config did the trick!
And I totally agree with not re-implementing all the features of the old plugin. Keeping this plugin as simple and clean as possible will help with keeping this plugin stable and easy to maintain.
