Unless that's a two click install, that's a bit more effort than I'm willing to spend here. However using NullSCM and breaking in checkout(...), then running build.getEnvironment(TaskListener.NULL) shows no undefined variable value. Using Jenkins ~1.591. Could you try what happens on a recent Jenkins version (current LTS or weekly)?
