I can work around the issue by not referencing the variable in the predefined parameters, the only downside to that is that my jenkins builds now have 2 occurrences of ${POM_ARTIFACTID}-${BUILD_ID} but I can live with that since this is not something that changes regularly. Are you going to submit an issue in jenkins core ?
