The call to CliGitAPIImpl.checkCredentials() has been removed. I don't have a proxy available to test. Can you build and test a version of the plugin for yourself to confirm that your proxy use case works?
If you can't easily build it yourself, I'm happy to build you a pre-release version for testing.
Based on my test results, I suspect git-client-plugin 1.13.1 will be released within the next 1-2 weeks and will include the fix.
