This sounds similar to an issue I put in https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-26329.
Basically only Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 slave agents hang. I am not using EC2 plugin, but using AWS in a private VPC and will hang on either JNLP (swarm plugin) or SSH slaves. Jobs run fine on an Ubuntu master. Also work fine on CentOS 6/7 and Amazon Linux slaves. Sure causing me problems because I have some reasons to build software on Ubuntu.
