You might try using a regular _expression_ to match the exact branch name pattern you're trying to build.
The rather surprising trimming behavior on "origin/master" and "origin/xxx/master" is a legacy behavior that I'm unwilling to change for fear of breaking far too many of the 50,000 installations of the git plugin. You can read more details about it in Alexander Link's analysis of the alternatives.
