I have 4000+ branches on the http://github.com/ceph/ceph project and the initial poll is triggering all of them. My workaround is to not actually build anything and wait a few hours until jenkins finished with all of them. I initially used the Ancestry plugin / method to select the builds that were less than 1 day old. But it sometime fails to notice that a change is available.
