I am not an expert on using git on windows but I think the git shell sets some 
environment variables which usually exist on unix and are required by git. But 
I'm just guessing. Google is your friend here.

I do know it is possible to run git.exe directly from Jenkins. There are some 
people at work who have the misfortune of having to use windows and they are 
running git.exe under their Jenkins.
