Well, it's been a long time since we've switched from CVS to SVN, but if I'm not wrong there should be additional text input for the name of the branch just below the CVSROOT configuration.
You can't co a branch from CVS with a URL - you need to specify the name of the branch. Hope I'm not very out of date with this info and that this helps.
