I've just attached a new build of the EC2 plugin to JENKINS-16884 (at Francis' request); this version contains a number of changes, including an attempt to resolve the 'too many instances spawned' problem that a number of users have experienced. It also changes the way instances are named, which results in the node lists in the Jenkins UI having more useful names for the nodes (the name of the template used to launch the node is now included in the node's name).
