Chandra, Thank you very much. I've successfully used your method on one of the XP machines that was previously failing. It's important to note that, at first, I kept the "-secret <big-identifier>" but that did not work. After editing the jenkins-slave.xml as you recommended to contain "file:///C:/Jenkins/slave-agent.jnlp", it worked.
I am curious. Why does "http://<server>/computer/<node>/slave-agent.jnlp -secret <big-identifier> " work on newer versions of Windows, but not on XP? Thank you very much for your solution.
