Strange, I'm just doing the normal "mvn org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-release-plugin:2.5:prepare mvn org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-release-plugin:2.5:perform" from inside a tree that I grabbed and checked out a branch from 2.39.2. It asked me for the version and I said 2.39.3
