Unless someone says otherwise, as stated on that page, until the plugins are changed to be compatible with the new architecture they won't be usable in a workflow script.
I'm guessing if there is a plugin that you really want to use and you have the skills, the maintainer of the plugin would love to get a pull request with the required changes in! :) Richard.
