This is a little chart I keep.
Problem: WG(24) ZB(23) HARD(128) MAB(24)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1x200MHz Pentium Pro
Jess Time (4.0b4, JIT) 31 17 8 6
CLIPS Time 8 5 2 6
Ratio 4 3 4 1
2x266MHz Pentium II
Jess/java 26 11 6 4
Jess/jview 14 7 3 4
CLIPS 5 2 2 1
Ratio <3 <4 <2 4
Not the most accurate thing in the world, but it gives you an
idea. Microsoft's jview is obviously quite a bit faster than Sun's JDK
(both with JIT here.) The 'HARD', WG and ZB problems are
compute-limited, while MAB is I/O bound. In any event, you can safely
say that Jess is within a factor of 5 of CLIPS on typical problems.
