Hi Folks,

Well, as promised, I've posted a snapshot of Jess 5.0 in its current
state to the web site

        http://herzberg.ca.sandia.gov/jess/

It is, as the name implies, an alpha release, meaning it's not
done. Some of the new features still have quirks and the overall
performance needs a little work (5.0a1 is about 10% slower than 4.3),
but actually, it's fairly solid. There are no new examples yet,
unfortunately, although examples are sorely needed to help explain
usage of the new stuff.

Important new features and changes:
        - Java 1.1 only - no deprecated warnings. No 16-bit streams.

        - No more ReteDisplay interface - everything is handled via
          events like JavaBeans.
        - Lots of API names changed: name() -> getName(). Sorry.
        - Everything is Serializable; bload and bsave work (although
          slowly.)
        - Inheritance of defclasses, deftemplates. This one is really
          neat.
        - Backwards chaining is operational. This is also fun.

The list has been curiously silent for about a week - as far as I can
tell, though, there are no technical problems. Hopefully I'll hear
some feedback on this release (or even the jazzy new web site... :)
