Tell that to all the folks, especially those in Japan, using Java Chips
and the EmbeddedJava API!

In general, overall, Jess's speed is within a factor of three of CLIPS
when using the best JVMs or AOT compilers (Microsoft's JVM with JIT is
only a little slower than native-code compilers like TowerJ.) There
are compute-intensive problems for which Jess has actually performed
faster than CLIPS, and I have a roadmap for getting to a point where
these cases become much more common. Java is not nearly as slow as
many folks still believe!
