Hello Ernest; thanks very much for your thoughts. I must admit I
didn't even consider Scheme, not knowing much more than "it's a
dialect of Lisp". I'll investigate; however, from my recent Lisp work
it appears Common Lisp has "come a long way". There are now CORBA
bindings available from both Franz and Harlequin, and the Foreign
Function Interface is supposed to allow seamless integration with
other languages (I haven't used the FFI, though).

Indeed, I would enjoy and appreciate this collaboration. I'm going to
