Three minor announcements: 1) herzberg the SGI is going away, being replaced by herzberg the Linux machine. Right now the web site is on the Linux box, and requests are being forwarded; soon, the old machine will disappear. Any problems should be reported to me. Everything seems to work, though. Someday soon, the online applet demo will be replaced by a much cooler servlet-based demo, since Linux can run real Java, unlike the ancient herzberg/SGI. 2) I promised some recent benchmarks. Here are times for my working copy of Jess 5.0 and CLIPS 6.02 on the Miranker 'manners' benchmark, using Microsoft jview version 4.79.2613. Times are in seconds on a PII-266. CLIPS was compiled with -O with MSVC++ 5.0. I understand CLIPS 6.04 is a bit faster on this problem than 6.02, by 10-20%, but I haven't tested it yet. This still, unfortunately, doesn't come close to touching OPSJ. I'm not out of ideas, however. 3) This is related to number 1. I've had a Ph.D since 1992, but this week I've gotten several dozen emails of congratulations, many from you kind folks. The reason 'Ph.D' appeared in my email name is simply because I'm using a different machine, and that's the name that was placed into the passwd file. I have since decided it looked pretentious and removed ther "Dr.".
