Hi Folks,

Well, at long last, Jess 5.0 (the final version) is available for
download at the usual place:

        http://herzberg.ca.sandia.gov/jess/download.html.

I started working on Jess version 5 well over a year ago; the first
version 5 alpha was released in December of 1998. Although Jess has
many new features since version 4, I think the biggest improvement ahs
been in quality. Jess 5 is more solid, faster, and better documented
than all previous versions.

A partial list of major features in Jess version 5 (some of these are
hardly new to you folks, of course:

        - 16-bit clean I/O
        - backwards chaining
        - greatly improved function-call mechanism
        - improved agenda management with time tags
        - serialization
        - fuzzy logic support (with NRC extensions)
        - the '|' connective
        - nested (not) CEs
        - many performance enhancements
        - dozens of new functions and features

Anyway, Jess 4.4 is hereby officially unsupported, and Jess 5 is
officially released. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed bug
reports, suggestions and ideas over the last year.
