Mike - thanks for this book referance. This is a great book to jump
start a newbie like me. The first half is good general theory, and the
last 6 chapter are a solid-gold, practical, clips-centered, very
readable, beginner-to-fairly-advanced tutorial on creating expert
systems.
Just what I needed,
Thanks.

Since JESS has some CLIPS roots, you might investigate:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0534937446/qid=998864608/sr=2-1/1
03-6516412-0303859
("Expert Systems : Principles and Programming" by Joseph C. Giarratano,
Gary D. Riley)
It should provide some design ideas, and the examples are in CLIPS
syntax, which is often identical to JESS.
Good luck,
