thanks. Of course it was a stupid error. I have been sitting here looking at it for half the day but you know how it is when no matter how hard you look you can't see the obvious answer. It looked for all the world like some obscure problem with definstance when it was, as you pointed out, just that the facts were unordered. Now all is well :^)
