Thanx for the tip but my guess is that some reused code for indexing the
pages is causing the problem. So I think the solution seems to do fine
tuning for garbace collection parameters for HotSpot VM.

I found at http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/gc/index.html the document
"Tuning Garbage Collection
with the 1.3.1 JavaTM Virtual Machine" that may make things clearer.
However tips on this task are still appreciated.
