We're please to announce the availability of the first release candidate for Jess 7.1 at the usual location:

http://www.jessrules.com/download.shtml

Jess 7.1 improves the semantics of "Java patterns," sports an improved optimizer, adds many convenience features, and improves on the performance and stability of Jess 7.0. We encourage everyone to download it and "kick the tires;" if no problems are reported, this release could be promoted to 7.1 final by next week.

Change log since 7.1b3:

Exceptions include source file names. Exceptions from
"batch" include the line number in the batch file, not
the caller. ValueFactory is public and
documented. "<>" behaves properly for more than 2
arguments (thanks Henrique Lopes Cardoso). Added uniform
methods for removing all types of constructs. Jess can
understand that "<Fact-6>" is a reference to the
fact with ID 6, in many contexts. HashCodeComputer is
public. JessDE warns when rules, queries, deffunctions
are redefined. Modules can be declared
"auto-focus". "call" will invoke a static method on a
named class in preference to a method of
java.lang.String if the target is an
RU.SYMBOL. RU.valueToObject will convert a LIST to an
Object as an Object[]. Rete uses system property to find
              scriptlib. Template properties (backchain-reactive,
slot-specific) are inherited. clear() doesn't touch
event handlers, mask, or watch state. Parser handles
dotted vars in direct LHS tests. "get" fetches slot values from
Fact objects. "(read)" and "(explode$)" handle nested variables.

Questions and comments are always welcome to this list or directly to me.
