Dear Friend, As children of the Lord, we are to be thankful and appreciative for all that we have. We should not only be thankful to the Lord in the times of plenty, but we are to also be thankful in the times of need. Our praise should not be dependent upon our needs being met, but rather the goodness and faithfulness of God is reason enough to lift our eyes and faith in praise to Him. The apostle Paul declares in 1 Timothy 6:6-8, But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. Let us be thankful at all times no matter what our circumstances consist of. The Bible says it clear in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. I hope you are blessed and encouraged by today's message. A LOAF FOR EACH OF YOU Once when there was a famine, a kind, rich baker sent for twenty of the poorest children in the town and said to them, ?oIn this basket there is a loaf for each of you. Take it and come back to me everyday at this hour till God sends us better times. The hungry children gathered eagerly about the basket and most quarreled over the bread, because each wished to have the largest loaf. At last they went away without even thanking the Good Samaritan. But Gretchen, a poorly dressed little girl, did not quarrel or struggle with the rest, but remained standing quietly to the side. When the ill-behaved children had left, she took the smallest loaf, which alone was left in the basket, kissed the gentleman's hand and went home. The next day the children were as ill-behaved as before and poor, timid Gretchen received a loaf scarcely half the size of the one she got the first day. When she went home and her mother cut the loaf open, many new shining pieces of silver fell out of it. Her mother was very much alarmed and said, Take the money back to the good gentleman at once, for it must have gotten into the dough by accident. Be quick, Gretchen, be quick. But when the little girl gave the rich man her mother's message he said, No, no, my child, it was no mistake, I had the silver pieces put into the smallest loaf to reward you. Always be as contented, kind and thankful as you are now. Go home now, and tell your mother that the money is your own. Author Unknown It is a great blessing to have the Bible as our instruction manual. Through God's Word we know that it is better to give than to receive, that it is better to humble ourselves instead of being proud and arrogant, and that it is better to be content with the little that we might have, than the untold riches of the wicked that will perish for eternity. (Acts 20:35) (1 Peter 5:5-6) (Proverbs 16:8) Always remember that you have the power to be positive and upbeat or negative and critical concerning how you live. Life is short and it should not be spent unhappily, but rather we should live each day with gratitude and thanksgiving unto the Lord. (Deuteronomy 30:19-20) (James 4:13-14) I encourage you to never look at what others have in envy, but rather trust the Lord to meet your personal needs. I want you to remember that true happiness never comes through material possessions, but it always comes through the peace that God puts in the hearts of those who trust Him. Read and meditate on these scriptures: Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Matthew 6:25-26 Jesus declares Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
