Dear Friend, Many times when a problem comes our way we tend to focus on the negative aspects of the problem and we do not look ahead of that situation to see what good may come from it. We are to always remember God's Word and know that we are called to be a victorious people and are promised to triumph if we faint not. The Lord Jesus knows that problems would come our way and He reassured us to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world for us. We are to have a favored attitude that if God be for us, who can be against us? If problems have been keeping your focus, I encourage you to look beyond your negative situation and see with your spiritual eyes the good that is promised to come. (Romans 8:28) (John 16:33) (Romans 8:31-32) I hope you are encouraged by today's message to not focus on the negative that may come before you, but rather look ahead to see what good will come that will overshadow the problems that were once in your path. YES BUT... Years ago I worked on some writing projects with a wise old psychiatrist named Smiley Blanton. One day I was complaining bitterly about an important book assignment that had fallen through. "Well, I can't solve that problem for you," Smiley said. "But I can give you a little homemade antidote for disappointment that you might find helpful." He went on to say that as a small boy growing up in Tennessee he had a favorite aunt he went to whenever he needed solace. Almost always Aunt Eliza's response began with just 2 words: 'Yes, but...' She had a wonderful way of making me look past the unpleasant moment to some compensation that might be arranged. 'Yes,' she'd say, 'our picnic has been rained out. But this afternoon we can go to the movies.' I always sought out Aunt Eliza when I was feeling depressed and always came away feeling happy. "That 'yes, but' phrase is a powerful attitude-changer." Smiley said. "Yes, the loss of your book assignment is painful. But there will be others, some of them more rewarding, perhaps, than the one you've lost. You'll be a lot better off if you shift your focus from past disappointments to future possibilities." He was right; life presents all of us with endless "yes, but" scenarios. And today when I use the "yes, but" therapy on myself I give thanks to Smiley's Aunt Eliza. Yes, she's gone now...but her philosophy remains a blessing. Author Unknown Be encouraged to not focus on the bad that comes before you, but rather look ahead and know that good will come and it will greatly outweigh the negative situations that were in your path. The Bible declares in Psalm 46:1-3 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof." We are to remain steadfast in our faith no matter what bad may come and focus on the Great I Am who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Remain Joyful and rest in His peace knowing that God is on our side and will work all things for our good. (1 Peter 5:8-11) (Jeremiah 32:17-19) (Ephesians 3:20-21) (Philippians 4:6-7) Read and meditate on these scriptures: Habakkuk 3:17-19 "Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and He will make my feet like hinds' feet, and He will make me to walk upon mine high places..." Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." Hebrews 13:5-6 "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible. Today's Selected Poem: WHAT IF?
