Actually this one is added per portlet as it wraps the portlet as servlet. But the heart-beat portlet is an interesting idea that I need to think about.

This could easily lead to some unexpected behavior; for
example, we keep a list of recently viewed items.

It may be more natural to have a Pluto heartbeat servlet
in each portal app, that would be a no-op servlet whose sole
purpose would be to keep the session alive.  One request per
portal app would also be more efficient than 1 per portlet.
