accessing RunData from JSP portlet

Using Raphael's recent update (thanks!) I can now embed a JSP portlet,
but I can't access the current RunData object.  Using this:
    (RunData)request.getAttribute("rundata")
always returns null within the JSP generated servlet.

Any suggestions?
