I don't understand what exactly is the bug... a mixing of portlets and pane is
perfectly
possible although the customizer has been designed to discourage this
and does not handle it
gracefully:

- Create a new pane <p1>
- Add a portlet in <p1>
- Choose the "Tab Pane" layout for
<p1>
(this may seem weird but can be useful to mix portlets and pane)
- Add a new pane <p2>
-
Customize pane <p2>
- Add a portlet to <p2>
- Select "OneColumn" controller for <p2>
- Click
"Apply"
- Select "TwoColumns (50/50)" controller for <p1>
- Click "Apply"

Works for
me...
You can also keep the "TabPane" but you'll have a double titlebar
for you portlet
content unless it has the parameter
"_showTitleBar=false" or "_control=ClearControl" in
its Registry
definiton
