Turned autodeployment service on as it now seems to be working perfectly! Drop a war into
WEB-INF/deploy bam! portlet app is deployed. Delete the war, bam! no more portlet app!

But jeez, no patch?!? Wonder how it magically started working....maybe the OJB classloader?
