Thanks for the response. I see that certain conditions have to be met to run 
into this problem, but I'm not sure yet that the problem does not exists (under 
certain circumstances).

The portlets have not been added by the user, rather they come from the PSML. 
But there, each portlet has its own id. Shouldn't this be sufficient to 
distinguish the portlets' preferences?
