Specifically what do you mean by "intranet applications"?
The WebPagePortlet can be used to display a web page in a portlet. The
webpage can include a Java applets, see the portlet JavaWeb in
portlets.xreg.
Additional documentation can be found in the Portlet Catalog on the
Jetspeed web site.
