A long time ago I wrote:

        here my contribution to the mail issue: I did it also with our companies
        mail server after I firgured out hie name. Then no neccessity to bother with
        james.
        What I did to get it run somehow (WinNT):

        in James:

        created a user "jetspeed", "postmaster", "juergen" <- thats me.

        In the hosts file I entered an alias for localhost:
        127.0.0.1 localhost a_name.localhost.de

        Then I tested that James workes with Netscape mail (It complained about
        juergen@localhost as a mal formed adress, therefore I added the alias in the
        hosts file). Even thought that I could sent messages, they turned out to be
        stored in the var/mail/outgoing directory and never at
        var/mail/localinbox/juergen. However, later the key for jetspeed was in the
        mail of the outgoing directory.

        additionally I added in the "TurbineResource.properties file according to a
        recommendation of one of mailinglist at the mail section

        mail.server=localhost (here you can enter an officiell mailaccount if remotely
available)

        # proposal from mailing list

        confirm.email.from=postmaster@what your domainnnaemis
        confirm.email.name=a_name.localhost.de Postmaster
        confirm.email.subject=Jetspeed Registration

        I really hadn't jet the time, what entry it made to get it run somehow,
        however I need to mention, that once you unsuccessfully registered with
        Jetspoeed, your name is entered in the database. The problem is, that if you
        like to re-register, even with a well formed email adress, the Jetspeed
        complained about an invalid email adress. This seems to be a bug. So
        despreately I entered a new name which I nevere tried before, and viola, I
        could register (unfortunately not just entering the secret key but with
        starting the http://... adress instead. Another bug?).

        I run Jetspeed 1.3a1 and Tomcat 3.2.2. I didnt get it to work with Tomcat
        4.0-5 aas well as 4.0-dev (v6). My Java is 1.3.1.

        Hope this helps.

        Juergen
