For those who are interested in web services and their use in portals, you
might have a look at

The first part describes how web services can be used in portals.

The second part describes a prototype built on WPS 1.2 that allows to
publish portlets written to the new Portlet API (see the new Portlet API in
the JetSpeed cvs) as web service and bind to these Remote Portlet Web
Services from other portals. Basically, that prototype makes the service
and event handling methods in the new Portlet API accessible via SOAP, so
that portlet proxies on other portal servers can invoke them.

Also, you might check out the WSDK at alphaworks.

I have written a portlet that uses a soapbean in this manner. If the
jetspeed team would be interested in taking a look they are welcome to.
