Jetspeed will use whatever session management is supported by the webapp container. Tomcat will try to set a cookie. If it recovers it, session tracking will be done using the JSESSIONID cookie (see the Servlet specification). If not, it will append a ;jsessionid=xxxxx to the URL and use it to track the session (when the user agent does not allow cookies).
