Santiago,

indeed you are right - we are very busy. I hope however that we'll have
time to merge the code for the new Portlet API with the head soon after the
1.3a2 release.

Regarding the strengths of WPS - WPS 1.2 that is available since this
summer has the new Portlet API (that we also contribute to JetSpeed),
performance and scalability-optimized multi-device page aggregation,
improved page customization, a portal datastore using relational databases,
advanced authentication and authorization features, management UI, user
enrollment and selfcare functions, support for various LDAP directories,
search integration, hundrets of available portlets, multi-level caching for
pages and portlets, single-signon, WPS test environment for Visual Age,
complete internationalization and the ability to serve many different
languages including Chinese and Japanese concurrently for users distributed
across the world and various other things. WPS includes some additional
software like WebSphere Application Server, DB 2, Extended Search, Secure
Way LDAP.

This is of course just the beginning, the next release will bring a lot
more functionality, including such things as the ability to publish and use
remote portlet webservices, sophisticated collaborative functions and many
other things. Of course - as Ming Fai expected - support and customization
through IBM global services and a large number of partners that provide
software and services around WPS also belong to the strengths of WebSphere
Portal Server. Those who are interested may have a closer look on the
WebSphere home page.

Best regards,

Thomas

The product team for the IBM websphere portal server has been working
with us for over a year now. They have actively pushed for a standard
portlet API, that several different portlet containers can implement.

They are not very active in the list lately, although I think this is
due to them having too much work with their successful project (I hope). :

Maybe some of the involved people can comment.
